New Years Eve!!

New Years Eve was the 2013 was the most incredible night that ever was. We are glad that we didn't invite the fire marshal down to the Ric Rac, because we reached capacity and then we reached capacity again. The West Philly Orchestra was incredible and we quickly became besties.

The horns joined us on some funky numbers.

Our balls dropped at midnight, and I'm pretty sure that my confetti cannon smashed a florescent light bulb on the ceiling.

We are so excited for 2013. More to Come!

We are totally besties.

FIVE YEARS!!

This past week, we celebrated five incredible years of Johnny Showcase & The Lefty Lucy Cabaret!

Nestled between the storm of the century, and an equally ugly and tempestuous election, we gathered for a night of love and pure pleasure.

That love was made manifest in the most exciting event of the evening, when our friend Alicia proposed to her partner Evan on stage...

We also honored our guitarist and longest standing member of the group, Vince, presenting him with a medal and dubbing him Saint Vincent the Lion Federici.

Thanks to our opener, Panther Thomas, and Miss Martha Graham Cracker for joining us on this special night. Special thanks to Frank, Pete and Joe and all our friends at the Ric Rac. There is no place like home.

A Binder Full of Women

I, like everyone else I imagine, can not move on emotionally until this election is over. I watched the debate tonight with Dotty, and we were actually encouraged by Mitt Romney, especially his views on women in the workplace. I can't believe I hadn't thought of keeping a binder full of women. I am now compiling one. If you would like to apply to be in my binder, please send a picture to johnny@johnnyshowcase.com. Til then, I thought I would offer this song...

The Deli Philadelphia Featured Artist!

Thanks to all or friends who voted for us to become the Deli Philadelphia's Featured Artist! We totally won by three votes!
What did we win? What didn't we win?!!
Well, we got this great interview, for starters, and they reposted our Sensual Video.

Does this mean we are, like, "indie"? We think so!! Well, we are certainly EMO, and by that we mean EMOTIONAL.

We get so emotional.

Funny or Die!

Reception has been remarkable for our video of Sensual, Pts 1 & 2...
We thought, what the heck... Let's put it up here to and see what the funny people say. Please view here, and tell em we're funny...or DIE! (Sorry about the lame Ad)

New Video!!

We are pleased to present our brand new video for Sensual, Pts 1 & 2!
It was directed by the very talented Rachel Gordon, and features our friends Kristy Chouiniere as the sexy lady and the Six Lady Dancer Jaundice as the Temporary Truth.
Here are some photos from behind the scenes. See more here!

Family

Our 7/28 show at Underground Arts was nothing short of transparent. Transparent? Translucent. Transcendent! Here is a photo of the group before the show.

Sadly, it was the last performance of the Half-Truth (known to some as Jamie McKittrick...not me, of course), who has left us for adventures beyond. We will miss her dearly, as demonstrated in the on-stage presentation of this Carvel ice cream cake.

It was also the release of our new EP Mystic Ticket I: The Pump Fake, which we played in its entirety, with some help from my emotional extension, The Six Lady Dancers.
It was such a killer show... setlist below:

intro (Shakin' Your Hand)
Octopus
Chairman Mao
Hit it
Golden handshake/ Hip Ship
Coconut Water
Bored
Rumi Kitchen: Stop Fooling Around
The Truth: The Whales
Mystic Ticket:
Screwdriver

Underground Arts / MYSTIC TICKET

Psychedelic soul cabaret crooner Johnny Showcase is pleased to announce his return to Underground Arts, 12th and Callowhill, on Saturday, July 28th at 9pm. (tickets!)
The July 28th show will coincide with the digital release of his four song EP MYSTIC TICKET I: The Pump Fake.
On the 28th, we will play the EP in its entirety, front to back!
A follow up to his 2011 soul/ comedy masterpiece LOVE IS THE MESSAGE, Johnny turns in his 8-track 70’s sound for a futuristic fantasia, putting the analog aside for an almost completely digital synthetic-sound.
Each track nibbles on a different genre of spacey funk, from the Herbie Hancock kinetic shuffle of Screwdriver (I’m Sorry Michael) to the Prince / D’Angelo- drenched ballad Rubber Glove, finishing with the anthemic Bowie-flavored disco of Forget about the World. Also included is a dub-heavy reworking of Johnny’s stalker love song, Shalamon (Future Mix).
I began work on MYSTIC TICKET after a terrible bicycle accident left me with a fractured elbow. Jobless and stranded at home, I spent the winter of 2010-2011 with Dotty on my lap, self-producing the record, enlisting friends such as Rumi Kitchen, guitarist Vinnie Federici and bassist Andrew Nelson to help create this futuristic deliciousness. It was mixed/ mastered at Waterfront Studios by blood sister/ collaborator Rachel Alina, who co-produced Love is the Message with us and Henry Hirsch (Lenny Kravitz, Madonna).
Starting July 28th, Screwdriver (I’m Sorry Michael) will be available for a free download in exchange for following Johnny on Twitter and liking Johnny Showcase and the Lefty Lucy Cabaret on Facebook.

One of my favorite gigs happened at the Philly Night Market. Hundreds of people showed up to 9th and Ellsworth to get down.

Johnny in Exile

Last week we played Theatre Exile's annual cabaret benefit. They are our good friends, and we were excited to lend our celebrity to their cause. It was also our very first gig with our dreamy new drummer, Charlie Heim. We have been in the incubation stage with Charlie, feeding him tubes of funk and injecting his soul into our sound. Also working on new stuff! Bam, I said it.
Here is Charlie's nasty silhouette, in a photo by Christopher Collucci.

We also got to share the stage with someone very special. Senator Arlen Specter came to perform his hilarious stand up act.

I finally got to shake his hand and tell him how much I loved his earlier work with the Beatles.

I have to admit, I am a little disappointed that he cut his hair.

It was wonderful to be back in Hudson, working on MYSTIC TICKET. The tracks sound incredible, and I can't wait to share them with the world. I also happened to spy LOVE IS THE MESSAGE, hanging one the wall, two guys above Michael's posthumous album. Just to be on the same wall as Micheal...even posthumous Micheal... I feel like I've made it.
